29th March 2021, Royal Brunei Culinary with the support of Singapore High Commission, Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Airlines launched the Singapore Food Festival at the Anjung Saujana Restaurant, Brunei International Airport.

The Singapore Food Festival was jointly launched by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism and special guest, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at The Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, Ministry of Finance and Economy. His Excellency Heng Aik Yeow High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam and Dato Seri Paduka Dr. Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) and Chairman of RBC Board of Directors, were also present during the launch alongside Baiduri Bank as banking partner for the event.

The General Manager of Royal Brunei Culinary, Yang Mulia Haji Jeff Hadiman Bin Dato Paduka Haji Danial, delivered his opening remarks. In his speech, he expressed his sincerest gratitude to all the parties involved saying that it was an honour for RBC to host the Singapore Food Festival at its Anjung Saujana Restaurant, the first cross border food promotion for more than a year. This was only possible with the great support and collaboration between Royal Brunei Culinary, Singapore High Commission, Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore Airlines. Also present to witness the launching ceremony were members of the Board of Directors of RBC, representatives from High Commission of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam and other invited guests.

His Excellency Heng Aik Yeow said that while many are keen to travel after a year of lock-down, travel restrictions are still necessary to protect against COVID-19. In the interim, we thank RBC, STB and The Black Hole Group for bringing Singapore culinary – both traditional crowd pullers and creative fusion fare – to our Bruneian friends.  We hope the curated menu will help ease travel pangs and whet the appetite to visit Singapore when broader travel can resume safely.

After the launch, tokens of appreciation were exchanged between Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism to His Excellency Heng Aik Yeow.

In partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board and Singapore High Commission in Brunei, this is the first cross border food festival held in Brunei for more than a year due to the ongoing travel restrictions. Introducing The Black Hole Group to Brunei Darussalam, the Singapore Food Festival 2021 has specially flown in Chef Md Zulfadli & Chef Muhd Helmi from Singapore to guarantee the authenticity for this food festival.

“We are once again excited to continue our collaboration with the Singapore High Commission and Royal Brunei Culinary to reimagine Singapore experiences and make our tastes and flavours accessible to Bruneians through the Singapore Food Festival. We hope that this specially curated gastronomical experience will satiate the tastebuds and pique the interest of travellers to rediscover what awaits them in Singapore." said Mr. John Conceicao, Executive Director, Southeast Asia, Singapore Tourism Board.
